Crowding is the number one reason why most people come to see an orthodontist. The number of people with crooked teeth is not increasing; however, more people are aware of their smiles. Our teeth not only affect how we look, but how we chew our food in addition to their role in our health.
Gum disease and poor oral health are serious consequences of the difficulty of caring for poorly aligned teeth. Heredity is the primary reason why teeth are crooked. This is usually due to teeth that are too large for the size of the jaws.
At your initial exam we will take photographs, X-rays and detailed measurements of your jaws. Using this information, Dr. Shaw or Ginzler will be able to evaluate the causes of your crooked teeth and bite in order to determine the treatment that is required, as well as any alternative treatments. Additionally, the X-rays are able to show status of developing teeth beneath the gums.
