A deep bite refers to the vertical overlap of the front teeth. When you look at your front teeth, the upper teeth should overlap the lower teeth by only about 25%. That means when teeth are together you should see approximately 3/4 of the lower front teeth. If the bite is too deep, you will see less of the lower incisors.

When your bite is too deep it is impossible to properly position the remaining teeth in their correct positions. Deep bites can also contribute to jaw pain and headaches, causing too much strain on the jaw joint. A deep bite is important to correct since it can contribute to many other problems, including the premature wearing of the teeth.
