Using the most advanced technology is just as important as staying up to date on the latest treatment techniques. Drs. Shaw and Jane Orthodontics is dedicated to providing the safest and most convenient treatment options available.
Digital X-rays save time, provide clearer dental photos, and expose patients to less radiation than traditional X-ray technology.
SureSmile® Orthodontic Technology
SureSmile technology is unlike conventional treatment, which relies on plaster models and X-rays. SureSmile treatment starts by providing us with a 3D computer model of your teeth, which allows the doctor to plan individual tooth movements throughout your entire treatment. SureSmile robots customize individual wires to match your treatment plan, and provide an exact outcome.
SureSmile orthodontic technology allows us to designe treatment plans that move your teeth to their correct position more efficiently than ever before, thus improving the quality of your treatment results and cutting your total time in braces by up to 29%. *
* SureSmile has been shown to reduce treatment time by an average of 29%, based on a March 2012 comparison of 7,042 patients treated with SureSmile versus 200 conventionally treated patients.
With the use of an intraoral camera, we can see every aspect of your teeth and mouth, uncovering cracked teeth, plaque deposits, cavities, and excessive wear.
Our intraoral camera is small: about the size of the mirror your dentist uses to peek into your mouth. You also have the opportunity to see everything we see on a monitor, which allows you to be more informed about your dental health.
When you're more informed, making decisions about your health is easier.
Digital CT Imaging
Digital CT imaging systems allow us to provide quick, comfortable, and effective dental imaging for the most precise treatment possible. Digital technology provides 3D data for:
- Dental implants
- Wisdom teeth extractions
- TMJ treatment
- Airway assessments and sleep apnea
- Full facial and jaw 3D images
The Digital CT imaging includes one 20-second scan that provides enough date for a complete diagnosis with less radiation. We seek to provide a safer and more comfortable experience all around.
By using a specialized diode laser, we are able to remove excess gum tissue safely and effectively in order to expose more of the tooth’s surface for better aesthetics and function. Orthodontic lasers are used to sculpt the gums around the teeth in a way that helps improve the overall appearance of your smile.
The best part of laser treatment? There is typically no need for needles! We apply a topical anesthetic to the gum tissue, so all you feel is the slight movement of the laser tip.
Laser Treatment can be used for:
- Ideal bracket placement
- Impacted teeth
- Recontouring of the gum line
Temporary Anchorage Device (TAD)
Temporary anchorage devices, or TADs, are small titanium anchors used in certain cases to achieve quicker tooth movement. TADs may be used in addition to braces or as an alternative to headgear.
How are TADs placed?
An anesthetic is used to numb the gum tissue and the jaw surrounding the area where the TAD will be placed. Once the area is numb, your doctor will gently place the TAD through the gum tissue and firmly into the jawbone. The placing of the TAD will be over before you know it. You may feel slight pressure, but within a day, you won't even know it's there.
Once your treatment is complete, or when it is no longer needed, we will remove your TAD.
